Partizipative bildende Kunst im öffentlichen Interesse – zwischen Indienstnahme und Möglichkeitsraum

‚Participation‘ – the new buzzword! Since the 1990th ‚participation‘ is a new trend in art production. Participatory or participative art is an approach to produce art in which the audience is engaged directly in the creative process, allowing them to become co-producer, co-authors, editors, and observers of the artwork. Therefore, this type of art is being made at the intersections of traditional art disciplines (sculpture, drawing) and new forms of artwork (cooking, social engagement). However, is participative art just a funny game, to entertain people? Or, is it all about politics? This questions in mind, we could ask, is participative art just a placebo for dying rural landscapes? What kind of effect show participative artworks in (remote) areas? Limits and potentials of participative art practices in rural areas are being discussed in this article.
